The Wharton Center for Health Management and Economics seeks strategic partnerships with health care companies and offers corporate members access to applied research, customized executive education programs, and assistance with recruiting within the Wharton Health Care MBA program.
MISSION
- Create and disseminate leading edge research on emerging topics in health management and economics.
- Serve as a mechanism for corporate partners to access Wharton faculty and students in both research and conference settings, as well as to dialogue with one another in meetings hosted at Wharton.
Research-Oriented
Mission
- Stimulate important applied and theoretical
research in the areas of health management and economics.
- Enhance understanding of how to
develop managerial infrastructure and economic incentives in complex
delivery systems, managed care plans and buyer-supplier contracting.
- Enhance understanding of how to solve 'make versus buy' decisions in health care.
- Encourage Wharton faculty to include
health care firms in their own research.
- Involve Wharton MBA students in applied industry research projects with corporate partners.
- Develop more multidisciplinary approaches
to health care within the Wharton School and pool faculty expertise
across disciplines.
- Disseminate research on health care
management and economics to interested business, academic, professional,
and governmental communities.
Business-Oriented
Mission
- Provide rapid response research for corporate partners .
- Serve as conduit for outside business partners to access expertise
of 200+ Wharton faculty in diverse disciplines.
- Serve as conduit for outside business firms to access learning from
other Wharton research centers (e.g., management of emerging technologies).
- Serve as collaborative forum whereby outside business firms can engage
in research dialogue with one another.
- Sponsor Wharton-based research investigations in areas chosen by outside
business firms.
- Sponsor research studies by Wharton MBA and doctoral students and
gain early recruiting advantage.
- Leverage Wharton brand name in industry-sponsored research
- Participate in periodic Wharton conferences and Center meetings that
bring together executives, faculty, and students.
- Assist Corporate Partners with executive education programs using Wharton faculty.
